Phased-array corrosion mapping on an excavated pipeline: OmniScan with a HydroFORM scanner

Services/Pipeline Integrity & Corrosion Mapping

NDT for Pipeline Integrity DigsWe do the NDT portion of the dig: how much wall is left, where the loss is, and how deep it goes.

Prime does the NDT portion of integrity digs. Once the line is exposed, the question is how much wall is left and where — so we map it: phased-array corrosion mapping across the area, remaining wall thickness and pit depth measured and recorded, and a C-scan map showing where the loss runs and how deep it goes.

The findings are documented and handed to your integrity and engineering team, who make the assessment and the repair decision. We are the measurement and the record, not the engineering call.

Our part of the dig

Corrosion mapping

Phased-array corrosion mapping with a HydroFORM scanner on an Olympus OmniScan, run across the exposed area of the pipe rather than taken as scattered spot readings.

Remaining wall thickness

Ultrasonic thickness measurement across the mapped area, recorded against the pipe’s nominal wall.

Pit depth

Individual pits measured with a pit gauge, where how deep matters as much as how wide.

C-scan corrosion map

A colour-mapped, encoded record of the scanned area — where the wall loss is, how far it runs, and how deep it goes.

What you get

A mapped area, not spot checks

Encoded coverage of the scanned area, so the extent of the loss is on the record and not inferred from a handful of readings.

Remaining wall and pit depth

Measured values recorded against nominal wall, with pit-gauge readings where they are called for.

Reviewable data

Encoded data that can be re-opened and reviewed, not just a number written on the pipe.

Integrity-program documentation

Results in a documented form your integrity program and your repair decision can be built on.

Where our scope ends. Prime performs the NDT portion of the dig and reports what the scan measures — remaining wall, pit depth, and the mapped extent of the loss. The engineering assessment, the remaining-strength work and the repair decision belong to your integrity and engineering team; we format the deliverable to suit them.

Frequently asked questions

What do you use for corrosion mapping?

Phased-array corrosion mapping with a HydroFORM scanner on an Olympus OmniScan, run over the exposed area of the pipe.

Do you measure pit depth as well as wall loss?

Yes. Ultrasonic thickness across the mapped area gives remaining wall, and individual pits are measured with a pit gauge where depth is the governing question.

What comes back from a dig?

The C-scan corrosion map of the scanned area plus the recorded remaining wall and pit depths, documented so they can go into your integrity program and support the repair decision.

What part of the dig do you do?

The NDT portion — corrosion mapping, ultrasonic wall thickness and pit-depth gauging on the exposed pipe, and the documented findings. Excavation, coating work, the engineering assessment and the repair decision stay with the operator and their contractors.

Do you make the fitness-for-service call?

No. We supply the measured data and the map; the assessment and the remaining-strength work sit with the operator and their engineering. Tell us what they need in the deliverable and we will match the format.

Can you mobilize to a dig site?

Yes — crews and equipment mobilize to excavation sites from our Katy and Lubbock, Texas offices plus field locations nationwide, with 24/7 response.

How do I get a quote?

Use our contact form or call (281) 944-3840 with the line, the pipe size and wall, and what the dig is for, and our team will follow up.

Dig coming up?

Tell us the line, the pipe size and wall, and what the dig is for — we will put a crew and a scanner on it.
